SPINAL
MANIPULATION
There are various forms of spinal manipulation for different diagnoses, not all of which include the traditional “crack” most people think of when referring to chiropractors.
For example, Flexion-Distraction is a commonly used treatment by chiropractors as a form of manipulation, or "adjustment" in the Lumbar spine. The purpose of all spinal or joint manipulation is to gap joint spaces in order to lubricate and protect surrounding tissues and prevent degeneration. Flexion-Distraction technique functions to gap all the Lumbar discs while flexing the patient’s spine from the waist down, though many times no pop or crack is elicited.
This is different from a traditional side-posture adjustment, wherein a patient is “cracked,” though both therapies produce the same end-result. The same applies to other areas of the spine, where Chiropractors have various techniques from which to choose according to patient preference. This is helpful, as many patients are hesitant with certain treatment approaches.
Adjustments are beneficial for various musculoskeletal conditions including neck pain, back pain, TMJ, sciatica, disc bulges/herniation, spinal stenosis, and extremity injuries, among others. Doctors Kelsey and Madison have training in manipulation of every joint in the body and are not limited to treatment of the spine.
